How Can I Help?

You Can Help The Hope CenterOpportunities to Help

Morning Breakfast Gatherings: On Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at 8:00am we gather on the corner of Market and Water at the Gazebo. This is a time of relationship building, storytelling, and sharing of food. Just a note: we do not serve people, we eat together; and we do not hover, we engage in conversation. We currently have a need for individuals or groups to supply food for Wednesday or Friday mornings. The food need not necessarily be breakfast food, but something savory; for example, soups, casseroles, stews, or anything with a protein. This gathering has been the cornerstone of The Hope Center.

At The Hope Center: Currently we are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am-1:00pm. We are working on adding a washer, dryer, and installing a dryer. When we finishing adding these elements, we will be operating five days a week. The Hope Center currently functions more as a respite than a day center, for we are establishing rhythms that will lead to self-worth and stability; however, there is still plenty to do. Below are some of the daily and weekly tasks we could use help accomplishing:

  •  Make Coffee
  • Stock the Snack Cabinet
  • Tidy up the Bathroom (Replace Toilet Paper, Clean Toilet)
  • Sweep the Living Room
  • Spend Time Actually Listening to Individuals Stories

Donations:

Basic snack and food items

  • Starkist Lunch To-Go’s
  • Beef Jerky
  • Individual Packs of Cheese Cracker, Potato Chips, and Cookies
  • Small Bottles of Gatorade
  • Chewing Gum

Non-Food Items

  • Chap Stick
  • Socks
  • Notebooks
  •  Pens
  •  Lightly Used Bags (Book Bags, Reusable Grocery Bags, Purses)

Financial Donations:

We are currently in the mist of raising funds to buy a stackable washer and dryer, and also installing a shower. These two elements will make us the only, “Day Center/Respite” that allows individuals to wash clothes, and take a shower without any pre-entry stipulations. Also financial donations will go towards starting a new ministries in closer to the business district that will help us relocate unsheltered individuals into legitimate affordable housing.
